This
pedestal, designed and built by Donald for his NY46 has many desirable features. Depth
sounder, log and wind instruments are built in. It is large enough to allow the wheel to
fit directly onto the hydrulic steering pump shaft. Engine controls are fitted
conveniently on the side. There are also 240 volt in and 12 volt out connectors
incorporated into the design.
It was first mocked up in ply to get the right shape and size then layers of cloth and
resin were applied. Fairing, sanding and a finish gel coat were then applied. The result,
a pedestal to be justifiably proud of at a fraction of the cost of a bought one. A word of
warning. Try and plan ahead and think of everything that you may want on the pedestal in
the design stage as, once made, you will find it very hard to incorporate any extra
features.
