Wooden Mast

These pictures were taken of a mast and boom being built for a Adventurer 25. The idea was taken from a photo the builder saw in the book 'The Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction'

Strips of maranti stapled together.

Stapling one side only allows the strips to curve over the formers. One for the
mast, the other for the boom.

The two formers. The masts are being made in two halves.

Tests are to be carried out on these one meter long test sections. The entire spar has been wrapped in two layers of 10 oz cloth.

An attractive spar at 20% the cost of a similar sized alloy section.
